Curious about the new Underground Railroad Sculpture in Ingersoll?
Join us at Ingersoll Library Saturday, February 18, 2023 from 1-3PM

Meet local artist Duane Kumala-Thomas and discover the vision behind an Ingersoll art installation recognizing significant dates in town history.

Join local historian, Heather Rennalls and explorer her knowledge of Ingersoll’s Black history.

Ingersoll Town Councillor, Khadijah Haliru, will speak about her story from Nigeria to Brampton to Ingersoll.

Special Guests including: Town Councillor, Mike Bowman, Oxford Caribbean Canadian Association and more.


“Using the familiar theme of the underground railroad as a focal point, the sculpture aims to represent Ingersoll’s involvement in accepting, aiding and growing amongst a new and increasing black population in the 1800’s and beyond. The visual of train tracks breaking through the soil and springing up into the Ingersoll air will present viewers with the emphatic feeling of a journey to this place, where travellers came up for air, settled and planted new roots”.

Annandale NHS and TDHS Events for February 2023!

Upcoming Events at Annandale NHS & Museum include:

February 12th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. – Exhibit opening of “What’s Your Sign?” Light refreshments will be provided. Cost is by donation.

February 14th from 1:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. – “Be My Valentine Tea” Come for tea, sweet treats and make a special Valentine gift to keep or to give to your Valentine! Cost is $20 plus taxes. 

February 20th from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. – Family Day at the Museum   Drop in on Family Day to play some games, make a craft, take a guided tour or participate in the for scavenger hunt. Cost is by donation.

The latest edition of The Society Pages, is now available for download.

Ontario Barn Preservation

The Vision of the Ontario Barn Preservation: ‘Is dedicated to preserving our heritage barns. We are a not-for-profit organization. Heritage barns are not only beautiful pieces of architecture and craftsmanship, they contribute to our rural landscape and as they disappear Ontario’s landscape is permanently changed. Ontario Barn Preservation provides resources, advice, connections, events, and services to preserve our barns.’

Architect Krista Hulshof Duynisveld will outline the work of the Ontario Barn Preservation and the importance of barn preservation and the important stories of Ontario’s pioneering past.

Please stay tuned to our website and posts for the latest information, especially at this time of year as winter storms can unexpectedly move in.

Ontario Historical Society Podcast Series!

The Ontario Historical Society has created a new podcast series, The Crown in Canada,hosted by Nathan Tidridge and produced by Leaking Ambience Studios. The series examines issues surrounding the Crown’s role in both Treaties and in our democratic institutions. The two-episode pilot was produced with assistance from the Government of Canada, Canadian Heritage Community Projects Program on behalf of the 2022 Platinum Jubilee of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

The OHS, founded in 1888, is a not-for-profit corporation and registered charity. The OHS is a non-government group bringing together people of all ages, all walks of life, and all cultural backgrounds interested in preserving and promoting some aspect of Ontario’s history. The OHS has a long association with the vice-regal family in Ontario, being granted patronage since 1888 by all 29 Lieutenant Governors, and is the longest continuous recipient of patronage from the office of the Lieutenant Governor.

The first episode of The Crown in Canada was launched on December 25, 2022 following His Majesty King Charles III’s inaugural Christmas message, and the second episode dropped a week later on New Year’s Eve. These two pilot episodes, called “Rooted in Treaty”, examine the Crown-Indigenous relationship that has existed across Turtle Island/North America, including what is now called Canada, for over 500 years. The podcast promises to take look at the role of the Crown in Canada in a thoughtful way, and examine what can be learned about this country—both its tensions and its promises.
