The speaker tonight will be a joint presentation featuring Jack Hedges, Dr. Elaine Becker and Jim Groulx, who will be discussing the Canada Company.

Don Wilson will talk about Bernadette Smith, Woodstock’s first female mayor.

Saturday, April 13, 2019: Historic Tour & Tea

Wednesday April 24, 2019:

Come join us for Jim Groulx’s presentation on “The Roaring Twenties, The Jazz Age”, with information about the daily living changes in the twenties and the jazz era at that time, featuring some songs from that era.

Wednesday, May 29, 2019:

Wayne Currah, from the Plattsville & District Heritage Society, will be discussing the various displays of quilts and other items that they have showcased throughout the years. His talk will include some books that the PDHS have published.

Grand Day Out! Saturday, June 22, 2019:

This year’s event includes a guided tour of Mountain Oak Cheese,  beginning at 10am. The tour costs $7.00 per person and the tour fee will be paid to the Society organizer the day of the event. After the tour there will be some time to browse and shop before heading for lunch at Trail’s Edge Tavern in Plattsville. After lunch we will all head over to the Chesterfield United Church to see the Plattsville & District Heritage Society historic display of 50’s & 60’s memorabilia.

RSVP is required to for the Grand Day Out. You can RSVP by adding your name to the sign-up sheet in the Resource Centre or email the Society at info@oxhs.ca.  If you email the Society be sure to include your full name, email address and phone number.

RSVP closes on Wednesday, June 19th.

Final information about the event, including meeting places and maps, will be emailed to participants on either Thursday, June 20th or Friday, June 21st.

Art in Victoria Park – Saturday, July 20, 2019:

Once again the City of Woodstock is hosting Art in Victoria Park, a day of celebration of Art, Culture, Heritage and Music from 2-9pm.

Come and visit the Society’s booth at this event, from 2-6pm, to learn about local history and to purchase publications by local authors.  The Society is looking for volunteers to help out at the booth. If you wish to volunteer email the Society at info@oxhs.ca.

Woodstock Agricultural Fair – Friday, August 23 – Sunday, August 25, 2019

This year the Oxford Historical Society will have a table at the 183rd Woodstock Fair  Admission to the fair is free and there are many displays, competitions, children activities and events for all ages.

We are looking for volunteers to help staff the table. If you wish to volunteer email the Society at info@oxhs.ca.

Annual Joint Dinner – Wednesday, September 25, 2019

Please join us for the Annual Joint Dinner with the OGS Oxford County Branch. This year’s speaker will be Barbara Raué presenting: If You Are Not Proud, You Are Not Done!

Barbara is a prolific author with more than 160 books to her name. Two of her favourite pastimes are architecture and photography. She has combined this interest in developing her series of books called Photos of Ontario Towns, Saving Our History One Photo at a Time.

She will be presenting her research and travel in Oxford County through a series of slides and her local publications including books on Woodstock, Innerkip, Tillsonberg and Tavistock.

Her publications will be available for sale, cash only.

Dinner will take place this year at the Salvation Army on 769 Juliana Dr. Tickets are $25.00/per person. Doors open at 5:30 and dinner is at 6pm.

Joint Presentation with WERC – Thursday, October 17, 2019

Presentation by Shirleyan English & Bonnie Sitter, based on their book:  Onion Skins & Peach Fuzz, Memories of Ontario Farmerettes.

Doors open at 6:30pm, presentation at 7:00pm. Refreshments will be provided.

The event is free and runs Saturday from 10am – 4pm, Sunday from 12pm – 4pm

Wednesday, November 27, 2019 – Jim Groulx Presenting

The OxHS is very pleased to welcome one of our long time members and past president, Jim Groulx, for his presentation on  “The Detroit River & the Interesting Happenings Over the Years”. His topic includes various military events, tunnels, bridges, ships and people that have crossed paths with this might river.

Spirit of Christmas Tour of Homes – Saturday, November 30, 2019

The Society, in partnership with the Woodstock Museum NHS,  will once again host a Spirit of Christmas Tour of Homes on Saturday, November 30, 2019 from 10-2pm. Museum events run from 10am – until 4pm. Tickets are $20.00 and will go on sale in mid-October. Tickets can be purchased from Merrifield’s Book Shop and Mostly Roses.
