About Us

Who We Are

The Oxford Historical Society is a registered non-profit society that, since our founding in 1897, has endeavoured to promote public interest in the history of the people and places of Oxford County and assist in preserving historical records for future generations.

What We Do

  • Host informative sessions with guest speakers well-versed in the history of Oxford County
  • Publish a quarterly newsletter
  • Collect, edit, and publish information relating to Oxford County's history, either in book or brochure form
  • Record and preserve oral histories, interviewing older residents who remember our past
  • Prepare photographic exhibits of buildings and sites in Oxford County
  • Assist people in researching Oxford County
  • Organize trips to historically interesting sites within and outside of Oxford County

Who We Work With

We partner with organizations such as Oxford County Archives, Ontario Ancestors - Oxford County Branch, Woodstock Museum NHS, and the history departments of Woodstock and Oxford County Libraries

Where To Find Our Collection

The Oxford Historical Society’s collection is proudly housed in the historic “Old Governor’s House,” located behind the Oxford County Board of Health—formerly the Oxford County Jail.

Visitors will find the Ontario Ancestors – Oxford County Branch offices on the main floor, with the Oxford County Archives situated upstairs.

An adjoining annex houses the archives of Oxford County and both of our societies.

For your convenience, accessible entry to both buildings is available through the wheelchair ramp at the back.
